  • Physicals:
Students who are new to the Mexico School District and those who are 5th or 7th  grade students are required by New York State law to have a physical examination by a licensed health care provider. This examination may be performed by the school health care provider at no charge or you may take your child to your own health care provider.

    Screenings:
Throughout the school year, mandatory screenings will be completed in the nurse's office if they have not been done on a recent physical.

    These screenings include:
Scoliosis for all 5th and 7th grade female students.
Vision and Hearing for all new entrants and 5th and 7th grade students.

    Medication Policy:
If your child needs to take a medication during school hours, whether it be over-the-counter or prescription, the following must be provided to the school nurse:

    • A written Physician's order from the Health Care Provider which includes the medication and dosage.
    • A written request from the parent/guardian.
    • The medication must be brought in to the Nurse's office in it's original container by a parent/guardian.
    • Students are NOT allowed to self carry medications UNLESS authorized by a physician and parent/guardian in writing

  • Coronavirus Information

Ways the COVID 19 virus can spread:

According to the CDC, the virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person: between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet); through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs. Also, the virus can be spread by touching infected surfaces then touching your eyes, nose or mouth.

    Symptoms:

Information to date suggests that 2019-nCoV causes mild-to-moderate illness and symptoms like the flu, including fever, cough, and difficulty breathing. This is an emerging, rapidly changing situation. Please contact our local Oswego County Health Department Covid-19 hotline at 315-349-3330 or the NYS DOH Novel Coronavirus hotline at 1-888-364-3065 with questions.
