What Are Community Schools?

MACS participates in the Community Schools initiative through CiTi BOCES, connecting our students and families with resources, opportunities, and support both in and beyond the classroom.

Community Schools bring together schools, families, and community partners to support the whole child. By working with local organizations, businesses, agencies, and service providers, Community Schools help connect students and families with resources that support learning, health, well-being, and belonging.

Depending on the needs of our students and families, this may include:

  • Before- and after-school programs and enrichment opportunities
  • Health, wellness, and family support services
  • Resources and learning opportunities for families
  • Partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and agencies
  • Opportunities that strengthen connections between school, home, and community

Community Schools are designed around the unique needs and strengths of each community. The goal is to make our schools a hub of support, opportunity, and connection for students and families.

Current Community Schools Programs & Services

Through our partnership with CiTi BOCES Community Schools, Mexico Central School District students and families have access to programs and opportunities designed to support learning, exploration, and connections beyond the school day.

Look at Me, I’m Three!

Programming for young children and their families that helps build early learning skills and strengthens connections between families, schools, and community resources before children enter school.

Dates for 2026-27:
Wednesday, Oct. 28 at New Haven Elem., 5 p.m.
Wednesday, Jan. 27 at Mexico Elem., 5 p.m.
Wednesday, March 31 at Palermo Elem., 5 p.m.

Free Summer Enrichment Camps

Mexico students have opportunities to participate in free summer camps alongside students from throughout Oswego County. Camps provide hands-on experiences connected to emerging careers, our local community, and the world around us.

Recent opportunities have included:

  • Chip Technology – Hands-on exploration of semiconductor and chip technologies, introducing students to skills and careers connected to the growing semiconductor industry and Micron’s investment in Central New York.
  • Career Exploration – Interactive experiences that allow students to discover different career pathways, interests, and opportunities for their future.
  • Environmental Science – Hands-on learning focused on environmental stewardship and the importance of protecting and preserving the shores and ecosystem of Lake Ontario.

These programs are one way Community Schools helps extend learning beyond the classroom, giving students opportunities to explore their interests, connect with their community, and imagine possibilities for their future.
