Letter from Dr. Runner: Nov. 9

November 9, 2021

Dear MACS Family and Community,

This morning, administrators learned that an elementary student brought an air gun onto the bus. The driver and monitor had secured the student’s backpack without incident and immediately involved one of the district’s School Resource Officers in the investigation.

Our investigation at this time does not demonstrate that any student or staff member was in any danger, as the student had no BB’s or loader, and the student said they brought the gun in to show it to friends.

The district strongly recommends parents and guardians check student backpacks before they leave and discuss with their students the importance of not bringing in a weapon of any type to school at any time. Whenever a student brings a weapon of any type into school, they are subject to discipline, per the district’s Code of Conduct.

We also ask that parents encourage their child(ren) to report any suspicious activity, weapon, or threat right away to a school official or a trusted adult. If they do not feel comfortable reporting an incident in-person, they can also report information to the district’s anonymous tip hotline Let’s Talk on the right-hand side of our website or by calling the superintendent or a principal.

Thank you for your time, efforts, and support of our learning community.

Sincerely,
Dr. Runner
Superintendent
