Letter from HS Principal Mr. Lanigan - 12.22.20

Dec. 22, 2020

Good morning MHS Students and Families,

I wanted to reach out and let all of you know we are thinking of you and want you to end 2020 safe and healthy. This might possibly be one of the most difficult years we have all had to face and come to terms with our current reality. There has certainly been a lot to be sad and angry about this past year but I believe better days are ahead. We will continue to keep you all informed and updated heading into the new year.

I wanted to share a few things for our students to think about over the break and into the new year that can help us all move forward in positive ways:

“Stay Human”

When we stay human with one another, we lead with our hearts and we show a spirit of loving concern for one another. We have had to sacrifice and have all endured less in-person human connection. However, we can still lead with heart and find ways to connect and be kind to one another. A quick message to tell someone you miss them, are thinking of them, or you are still here for them, will go a long way. Flooding social media with messages of hope, love, and compassion can and will make a positive impact!

“Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud.”

We know this year has been extremely hard and painful for so many families. Many have had to sacrifice and go without many of the things that bring us joy. We can continue to be positive and all try to be an empathetic, beneficial influence in someone’s life. Maya Angelou’s quote is about the way that our actions and attitudes have far-reaching repercussions, like a pebble in a pond causing waves. Therefore, it’s always best to make those ripples positive and helping to create a chain reaction of positivity.

“Be a chain reaction of kindness”

Rachel Joy Scott’s quote shows us to always try and choose the positive way to talk to, speak to, and be with people. Becoming a positive influence and force in someone’s life, helping to keep them motivated and positive and looking forward, can be a massively important, powerful thing, and by doing that for someone, you’ll be enhancing their life, and enhancing your own. Be the change you want to see, and a positive one at that.

I want to wish everyone a well-deserved, restful and safe break. 2021 may start slow and seem the same but keep the belief that it will get better and we will finish the 2020-2021 school year strong. I know we will all come back better than ever!

If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to me at RLanigan@mexicocsd.org. Happy New Year!
