BOE appoints Interim Superintendent effective July 1

The MACS Board of Education accepted the June 30 resignation of longtime Superintendent Sean Bruno at its June 11 virtual business meeting and welcomed Michael Schiedo as interim superintendent effective July 1.

To initiate the process of finding a replacement for Bruno, who has led the district since June 2015, the Mexico Academy and Central School (MACS) board interviewed Schiedo during Thursday’s meeting and then appointed him the same meeting.

“We wish Mr. Bruno the very best as he begins the next chapter in his life and we want to extend a warm welcome to Mr. Schiedo as he adjusts to his new role as interim superintendent,” said MACS Board of Education President James Emery.

Bruno and Schiedo intend to work together over the coming weeks so that a seamless transition will occur when the month ends, Emery said.

Schiedo has nine years of experience as a superintendent, retiring from the Chittenango Central School District in 2017. He also served as interim superintendent at West Genesee in 2019 from February to August.

The Board thanked Bruno for his years of service, and officials said they will keep the community updated as the search for a permanent superintendent continues.
