Michael Johst

  • Welcome to the High School Science Department! My name is Mr. Michael Johst. I started my educational career at an alternative school called the Academy in Oswego, where I worked from 1995 to 1997. I have had the pleasure of working with Mexico High School since the 1997/98 school year. I received my teaching credentials from SUNY Oswego, receiving a BS and a MS in Education there. At the High School I teach Earth Science and Environmental Science, run an Aquaponics Greenhouse, and have coached Science Olympiad since 2005. My hobbies include traveling, hiking, and creek walking. I have a daughter entering the 9th grade at Oswego High School.

I really enjoy what I do, I like my job, and I like working with students, seeing that spark in their eye when they discover something new or when they solve a problem. I try to make the instruction as hand's on as possible, make it relevant, and try to encourage students to actively discover their own solution. When ever possible I like to incorporate trips and distance learning into my classroom, help them to understand that there is a great big world beyond Mexico, and that we are all interconnected.
