OCAY League Team Takes Second Straight Gold
The Talkative: (November 15, 2016)
Mexico High School's OCAY League team made it two in a row on Tuesday as it claimed top honors at this month's event in Fulton. The team also won the October event.
This month's academic competition focused on forensics and the law. According to Mexico advisor Shannon Bigelow, teams were tasked with solving a staged crime by analyzing a ficticious crime scene, assessing witness testimony and forensic lab work.
Bigelow said her team demonstrated several skills that led to the win. "They know their particular skills. They're very good at figuring out which group members should do which tasks, and then working collaboratively," Bigelow said.
Oswego High School finished second and Pulaski third.
The OCAY League competitions stress academic-oriented events, that are generally interdisciplinary. This was the 80th overall competition since its inception in 1997.
The ten-member team consisted of seven first time participants.
This month's team members are: Sean Heagarty, Ben Pelow, Cait Spurling, Becca Saya, Abbi Weber, Emily Blunt, Kylee Fletcher, Rob Cassidy and Brendon Pullen.
